The North Island College Foundation, together with presenting sponsor RBC Dominion Securities, is excited to officially announce that the second annual Flavour: The North Island’s Gourmet Picnic will take place at Coastal Black Estate Winery & Meadery on Sunday, September 15th.
Flavour is a foodie-focused event featuring celebrated local chefs, farmers, producers, brewers and vintners, as well as some special guests from out-of-region. With 55 exhibitors confirmed, and only five exhibitors’ spots remaining, the event is certain to be a gastronomical extravaganza, surpassing last year’s sold out event.
Guests at Flavour will sample from an abundance of delicious food and beverage offerings while enjoying live entertainment and the immaculate grounds of Coastal Black’s working farm and award winning estate winery.
Proceeds from this family-friendly event are directed towards scholarships and bursaries for NIC’s Culinary Arts students like Trevor Krinbill. Since he was 12 years old, Trevor knew he wanted to become a chef. Still a student in high school, he has shown remarkable enthusiasm for the culinary arts, having already completed his level one Professional Cook designation this past year. Trevor begins his level two training at NIC in September. Once he completes his formal training, he plans to travel and work abroad to learn first-hand about the unique ingredients and culinary techniques of far-away places like the Philippines and Australia.
On September 15th, Trevor will attend Flavour in his capacity as a NIC Culinary Arts student, preparing and serving delicious, local food. He’s excited about the opportunity and sees the ‘big picture’ with wisdom beyond his 18 years. As he explains in his quiet, yet confident, manner, “Quality of ingredients is everything. We’re so fortunate here to be surrounded by family owned products, brought up through generations. Local food is trustworthy.”
This event also supports Flavour’s community partners, the North Vancouver Island Chefs’ Association and the Farmers’ Market Association.
